Hey, yo! Megs here, current coach (former intern) at BSP NOVA. I would like to take the time to introduce myself. Some of you I have had the pleasure to meet others I have not (but I would like to).

My husband and I have recently started a new adventure in the northern Virginia area due to a job offer we couldn’t say no to [not the mob, to be clear]. This adventure terrified me, but I threw the dogs in the car and pushed forward. You see, I have been a coach since 2011 in a small performance center down south—and I had it good down there. I had a work family, stable hours and income, and a sense of control over my life. I hate the thought of starting over.

I started researching gyms up here last summer and found some of BSP NOVA’s blog content floating around on Facebook. I read all the articles and immediately was like
“I need to be there”.
I checked the map and realized the gym was an hour away from where we first set up to live. Bummer. So I took a job at a commercial gym.
The commercial gym feel was not the place for me—I absolutely hated it. While still stalking BSP NOVA in the background (yes, I know that sounds a bit creepy), I noticed they were having interns. I was upset with where my life was going and decided to do something about it. I applied.
I have never been so nervous in my life—it was like sorority recruitment all over again. Constantly checking my email until I finally heard back from Todd and set up time to meet with him.
I arrived to my interview like and hour early and was extremely nervous. I felt my whole life/career was on the line. If this doesn’t work out I’m just going to go to law school… Turns out they saw something in me that said, “keep her around for the internship.”
The internship was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. It’s one thing to read something and try it out on your own, and something else entirely to try and practice in front of someone who will give you honest feedback. I have learned so much in such a short period of time. Sometimes it was overwhelming, but Todd made it seem safe even when I felt like throwing everything in the gym at him.
When Todd and Chris told me that they were going to figure out a way to keep me after the internship I was ecstatic. I may have cried a little. I’m not a person who believes in fairy tales or one true loves…but if a gym was that, it would be BSP NOVA.
BSP NOVA is a wonderful place to be yourself. On the outside it may look like a bunch of bros, but it is so much more than that. It’s family—an open family that doesn’t allow you to be complacent, that is constantly picking you up and always expecting better. I can’t wait to see how I develop here now that I’m officially home.
Let’s all give coach Megs a warm welcome!
And before we go… let’s all take in this glamour shot of Megs and her old pup, Dexter:
