Alright guys, last week’s Alpha Challenge winner was Ismael Gonzalez. Ismael is a really interesting dude- he’s old enough to be my dad (sorry Ish, I had to, lol!), and yet he can hang with the youngest guys in the gym on just about anything…
I sent him a few interview questions and invited him to pick this next week’s challenge- so here goes!
Congrats on winning the plate pinch contest- you destroyed it with a time of 2:40.7! That’s no joke…
Let’s jump right into it. So your background involves CrossFit- even being a certified CrossFit coach. I let you get away with your old ways for a bit when you came in, but you eventually caved in and let me program for you. What has the Beyond Strength Performance NOVA system done for you?
What is this CrossFit again? Haha… No, I can’t believe the results and how I felt after my first few workouts. I still love CrossFit, but in no way does CrossFit come close to the quality programming at BSP NOVA.
- PRO: I would finish a workout dead tired (that’s generally good)
- CON: High chance for injury due to performing complex, skilled movements under fatigue
What’s your favorite exercise or portion of your workouts?
This is a tricky question to answer, but the warm-up is probably my favorite part of the programming. The first time I saw a Beyond Strength Performance warm-up I did not know what to think about it. I guess I was a little dismissive of it- until I tried it. Sweating and breathing hard before a work out… that was new!
What’s your least favorite exercise that we’ve programmed for you- and why?
I will have to say INCH WORMS!!! I HATE them, but they help my hip mobility (so I will continue to hate them; and I will continue to do them).
What I can say is that the holistic combination works wonders. For starter’s when I arrived to BSP, I couldn’t squat below parallel. Well, that is no longer the case, and I can even squat without pain.
In a nut shell, I have my mobility back and pain FREE!!!
That is priceless… I do believe that my conditioning has improved and my form (although still a work in progress) is much better than before.
And there is no other facility that I have been to where their members are like family… That in itself is priceless.
Good question! Ronald Reagan a man with compassion, empathy and a positive view of America like non other. We need more people like Mr. Reagan now more than ever…
Courage is keeping your fear in check for one minute longer than necessary. I was scared every single time that I exited (jumped out a plane). Does that make me a hero? Hardly… To me a hero is anyone that is willing to put his/her needs aside in order to help someone else…
Alright, it’s that time! What are you picking for next week’s challenge??!
It’s Plank time 🙂
There you have it! This weeks challenge is to hold a plank for as long as possible, with great form!
